Brain: The Inside Story Programs

BRAINFest!

Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, first floor

Ticket Info

Free with Museum admission

Celebrate gray matter at BRAINFest! Learn how the brain thinks, processes sensory information, and perceives the world. Imagine how advances in artificial intelligence and robotic technology will change life in the future. Have fun improving your memory, confusing your senses, and testing your abilities through various games, puzzles, and other activities.

MILSTEIN HALL OF OCEAN LIFE, ON THE BALCONY

ANATOMY
Do you know the different parts of your brain? Do you know what they do?  Check out 3D brain puzzles and models to learn which parts of your brain you share with lizards and which parts make you human.

EMOTIONS AND DECISION-MAKING
How is the brain influenced by emotions? And what role do emotions play in the decisions we make?  Find out how they are connected.

MEMORY AND LEARNING
How do practice and planning help the brain learn? Try your hand at memory games and brain teasers and learn how to keep your mind sharp!

TRICK YOUR SENSES
Learn how your senses help you understand the world around you through a variety of optical illusions and experiments using everyday items such as gumdrops, mirrors, and paper clips.

MILSTEIN HALL OF OCEAN LIFE, LOWER LEVEL

BRAIN IN MOTION
How good is your coordination? By playing ping-pong you will learn how the eyes and hands work together using messages sent from the brain.

BRAIN AND TECHNOLOGY
Catch a glimpse of future technology. Meet wakamaru, a robot that talks. Try robotic instruments that send musical messages through a slinky and slime. Witness emergency rescue robots in action and try your hand at brain wave games.

SPITZER HALL OF HUMAN ORIGINS, SACKLER LAB

IN THE LAB
How do scientists study the brain? View and compare the brains of different animals, learn about how genes work in the brain, and look at neurons under a microscope.
