This workshop will introduce K-12 teachers to the Museum’s newest exhibition,Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture. Teachers will engage with Museum educators, and scientists to strengthen their understanding about the science of food, resource sustainability, and health. Participants will explore the essential questions addressed by the exhibit, examine research on how students learn these concepts, and work with Educator’s Guide activities for the grade level they teach. Presentations by scientists will provide for an in-depth exploration of the content as well as perspective on how scientists work to study food issues. Conversations with colleagues will help teachers work on differentiating lessons for their students. Teachers will receive copies of the Educator’s Guide for Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture as well as digital and print resources for teaching topics related to this institute. This workshop addresses Common Core state standards in English Language Arts for non-fiction reading.
