Origami Folding Fun Sessions

Sunday, March 5th, 2017

A combination of brightly colored papers are folded together to create small paper sculptures modeled on the look of firework bursts in the sky.

Join OrigamiUSA at the Museum for special origami classes.

Both morning and afternoon sessions will be held and several class options are available for each session.

Check out the list below!

MORNING CLASSES

All of the following classes take place from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Tomoko Fuse's Triangle Box

Level: Simple
Teacher: Kathy Riley

Kathy will show you how to create a stack of these ingenious stacking/nesting triangular boxes.

Baby Animals

Level: Low Intermediate
Teacher: Bernice Smith

Create a collection of cute critters—including ducklings and bunnies—with Bernice.

Framed Mixed Media Miniatures

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Louise Oppenheimer-Flax

This class will use an interesting mix of techniques and media to create images. You can put them into a simple blintz base frame or create your own frames later.

Cake/Triangular Box with Rose Motif

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Sandy Richman

Sandy shows you how to fold and assemble a triangular box with a rose motif on the top. Six boxes can be put together to make a gorgeous “cake.”

Nick Robinson's Open Cube

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Heidi Lenney

Here are two great models to help you de-clutter your desk: Nick Robinson’s open cube and Philip Shen's classic bowl.

AFTERNOON CLASSES

All of the following classes take place from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Family Fun Spring Models

Level: Beginner
Teacher: Candace Paska

This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together, no experience necessary. For children ages 8 and up. (Adults without children are also welcome!)

Roosters

Level: Simple
Teacher: Ros Joyce

Cockadoodledoo—it’s the Year of the Rooster! Ros will teach two simple-to-low-intermediate roosters by Kazuo Kobayashi. As time permits, additional traditional models will be taught.

Temple Box/Candy Box

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Maureen Miller-Calamo

It’s a star, it’s a box, it’s both! This marvelous box, created from a single piece of paper, has a square bottom and a Ninja star-shaped top.

Fellowship of the Rings

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Jan Polish

Jan will teach a series of models that evolved from Mette Pederson’s original modular ring (introduced in 1989). Contributions from Paolo Bascetta, Michael LaFosse, Peter Budai and others illustrate the flexibility of Mette’s original idea and the world-wide nature of origami friendships.

Fireworks

Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Wendy Zeichner

You’ll definitely get a bang for your buck in this class! Folded from 12-16 sheets, the modules create a very strong lock that allows the model to rotate and eventually “pop” into a beautiful display!
