Urban Astronomy- Exploratory Course
Jan. 7 - Feb. 2013
You do not have to travel to a remote mountaintop to see stars; many can be observed from cities, even from the Big (bright) Apple. This course explores the heavens above as viewed from New York City. We will cover the basics of amateur astronomy using planetariums and the night sky to practice naked-eye and binocular observation. Each class will focus on a particular section of the sky, its constellations and objects of interest. Throughout the course, students will learn to identify over a dozen constellations, as well as specific stars, planets, star clusters and nebulae.
Meeting Times: Mondays: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
