Moon AR

This animation shows the phases of the Moon, but sped up to compress one month into 12 seconds and one year into 2.5 minutes. These images were taken by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). Launched in 2009, the LRO takes incredibly detailed images as it circles the Moon in low orbit. LRO data will also provide important information for planning manned missions back to the Moon.
