A double-life-size bronze statue of Albert Einstein weighing almost one ton was hauled into the American Museum of Natural History to become a major focal point of the landmark Einstein exhibition. The sculpture, created especially for the exhibition by renowned American artist Robert Berks, depicts a casually seated Einstein wearing sandals and reading a page with three of his most influential formulae, including E=mc2.
Arriving on a flatbed truck, the 12-foot-long, 1,800-pound statue "Einstein" was rolled off onto a dolly and taken to the fourth floor exhibition gallery. Once in the gallery, "Einstein" was hoisted by his chin on a special gantry and lowered into place on a curved stainless steel bench. The sculpture is a smaller version of the Albert Einstein Memorial Berks created for the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
