When the person sitting next to you sneezes, you have every right to be wary. Many kinds of microbes are transmitted through the air. Droplets released when a person sneezes or coughs can easily be inhaled by another person nearby. Crowded and unsanitary conditions increase the likelihood of airborne transmission of disease-causing microbes. Microbes also can be spread by air conditioners and recycled air.
