The AMNH's Central Asiatic Expedition
The 1920s Gobi expedition, called the Central
Asiatic Expedition, did not accomplish what it had originally
set as its mission, to discover evidence of the origins of humankind. But it did discover something equally important: the first dinosaur eggs ever identified. Moreover, the expedition made a thorough
zoological, geological, and archaeological survey of the region, which the team completely mapped. Because of these enormous
achievements, as well as dozens of other major finds, this expedition is among the most significant the Museum has undertaken. |
The 1997 Gobi Expedition
As part of a major ongoing research expedition,
scientists from the American Museum of Natural
History went Mongolia in the Summer of 1997
searching for dinosaurs and other fossil
vertebrates in the Gobi Desert. The Museum
teamed up with Discovery Channel Online to bring
this expedition directly to the World Wide Web
audience. A reporter and a photographer from
Discovery Channel Online were with the
expedition team and sent daily dispatches from
the field. |
