Stephen P. Huyler, Guest Curator of Meeting God: Elements of Hindu Devotion
Stephen P. Huyler is an art historian, cultural anthropologist, photographer, and author. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Huyler has traveled in villages throughout India documenting craftsmanship and contemporary traditions. His focus during the past decade has been on the sacred arts and spiritual rituals of practical Hinduism. Dr. Huyler has served as a consultant for many museum exhibitions of Indian art. He is a noted lecturer in his field and frequently travels to universities and museums in the U.S., U.K., Europe, and India. He is the author of Meeting God: Elements of Hindu Devotion (Yale University Press, 1999) and has just completed India's Daughters: Art and Identity, a book focusing on 17 women in 17 different communities (to be published in 2002). Dr. Huyler has exhibited his photographs at numerous museums throughout the United States and in Germany and India. He has taught graduate courses at Ohio State University entitled Puja: Personal Hindu Devotion and The Everyday Art of India.
