    • Land mammals, though common in Nuxalk territory, were unimportant as a source of food. The mammal of greatest economic importance in aboriginal times was the mountain goat. Its wool was woven in blankets and its horns molded and carved into spoons. Smoked mountain goat meat was almost the only meat available during the winter. The principal hunting implement was the bow and arrow. Snares and deadfalls were used to catch animals of all sizes.
