San Andreas fault
Part of Hall of Planet Earth.
The San Andreas is probably the best-known transform fault boundary. It connects the spreading East Pacific Rise, in the Gulf of California, with the spreading Juan de Fuca Ridge, to the north. This aerial photograph shows the scar caused by the San Andreas as it crosses the Carrizo Plain in California.
