Theodore Roosevelt Park and Obelisk
The Museum will be open on Wednesday, January 28, during regular hours, from 10 am to 5:45 pm. Due to the weather, some programs have been cancelled. Please check here for a full list, and check back for regular updates.
Regular updates will also be posted to our Facebook page and Twitter account (@AMNH).
The wooded grounds surrounding the Museum, originally known as Manhattan Square, were renamed Theodore Roosevelt Park in 1958 on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
There is an obelisk in the park inscribed with the names of American Nobel Prize winners, starting with Roosevelt's in 1906. Just west of the entrance to the Rose Center for Earth and Space on 81st Street is the Bull Moose Dog Run, a nod to the Bull Moose or Progressive Party for which TR ran for president in 1912.
