About the Exhibition

A thrilling journey along the greatest trading route in history--the legendary Silk Road. This exhibition, which took place from November 14, 2009 to August 15, 2010, explored the ancient cities of Asia and the Middle East between AD 600 and 1200, where spectacular sights, exquisite silks, and rousing stories were in abundance.

Travel the Silk Road by clicking on "Take a Journey" on the left side of the page. The first stop: Xi'an. Watch a video of silk worms spinning cocoons. Then, learn about Turfan's raucous night market. In the section on Samarkand, explore the ancient crafts of paper-making and glassblowing and learn about your trusty transport, the camel. Finally, ancient Baghdad, a hub of commerce and scholarship, beckons as you near the end of your travels.
