Spirit Repositories

Many kinds of objects are spirit-infused or act as spirit repositories:

•  Kongo packets, (paket kongo), used on Petwo altars and in healing ceremonies, are filled with leaves, herbs, earth and other ingredients.

•  Jars called govi, containing the spirit essence of deceased members of the Vodou family, are kept upon an altar.

•  Pots known as po tet ('head pots') are repositories for the nail and hair clippings of the initiates in a Vodou society. They too are kept on an altar and draped with the necklaces of the devotees.

•  Charms called wanga
