Live Stream from a Floating Research Station: Today at 4 pm ET

Hang out with researchers halfway around the world during a special live stream from the beautiful Solomon Islands, where Museum researchers are exploring the mysterious organisms that light up the ocean's dark waters, uncharted microbial life, and the rich diversity of fishes, corals, and other animals. The live stream will begin on the Museum's Kinja page on Wednesday, September 25, at 4 pm ET.

This month, Museum Curator John Sparks is leading the The Explore21 Solomon Islands Expedition. A part of the Museum's Explore21 initiative, this three-week research journey is headquartered aboard the Research Vessel Alucia. Chris Filardi, who is the director of Pacific Programs in the Museum’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation, wrote this dispatch when he joined the expedition team last week.
