News posts

Mark your calendars for a special event coming later this month: the Museum's yearly celebration of Kwanzaa on Saturday, December 28. From the Swahili meaning "first fruits of the harvest," Kwanzaa is hosted this year by storyteller Linda Humes.

The festivities will include family-friendly activities, an international marketplace, and many live performances. This year, bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker MK Asante will introduce a new film, narrated by Maya Angelou, “The Black Candle: A Kwanzaa Celebration.” The Supremes from the Broadway hit Motown the Musical will also make a special appearance.

Kwanzaa at the Museum is on Saturday, December 28, 2013, from noon to 5 pm.
