Starting today, Android users will be able to find their way through the Museum, along with more than 20 other institutions, with an expansion to Google Maps for indoor locations. The new service accurately tracks a user’s location with a blue dot and guides visitors through exhibitions, to restrooms, and across various floors.
Visitors can also use the free AMNH Explorer app for iPhone and iPod touch, which launched in 2010 and whose founding sponsor is Bloomberg. In addition to giving turn-by-turn directions, AMNH Explorer also offers snapshots and profiles of iconic Museum objects as well as pre-loaded tours. Visitors can borrow an iPod touch loaded with Explorer from the Museum at no charge.
