January 3-4: Last Chance to See Pterosaurs, Lonesome George!

News posts

Start the New Year with a trip to the Museum! This weekend is the last chance to see two special exhibitions and the IMAX film Great White Shark.

Head to the Astor Turret on the Museum’s fourth floor to see Lonesome George, the last known Pinta Island giant tortoise from the Galapagos Islands and a global icon of conservation. Watch the video below to find out how Museum scientists helped preserve Lonesome George.

Find out about amazing reptiles from a different time in Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of the Dinosaurs, which features rare fossils, life-size models, and an interactive that lets you pilot a pterosaur over a prehistoric landscape in pursuit of prey.

And don’t miss Great White Shark, now playing in 2D and 3D in the Lefrak Theater. The 40-minute film brings audiences closer than ever to the predator humans love to fear as the camera follows free divers who tag great whites in an effort to learn more about these magnificent animals.
