World Whale Day was this weekend, but on a trip to the Museum, you can take time to appreciate these ocean-dwelling giants in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life whenever you want. While it’s easy for the iconic blue whale to steal the show, don’t forget the other cetaceans on display.
On the second floor of the hall, you can catch a glimpse of the life and death struggle between a sperm whale and giant squid —a clash of titans that takes place thousands of feet below the surface of the sea. Not all whale relatives are so massive, though, and you can learn all about some of the world’s smaller cetaceans in the Dolphin and Tuna diorama.
Beginning March 3, your whale-watching trip at the Museum can come to life when Humpback Whales opens in the LeFrak Theater. Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii, and the remote islands of Tonga, this ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how these whales communicate, sing, feed, play, and care for their young.
