LeFrak Class of the Month Essay Contest - Creatures of Light Sample Winning Essays
The LeFrak Class of the Month Essay Contest invited New York City students in grades K-8 to submit essays about their Museum visit to the LeFrak Family Gallery, where they experienced the temporary exhibition Creatures of Light.
This non-fiction reading and writing opportunity asked students to think critically about what they learned from their visit to the exhibition, and provided teachers with the opportunity to align a Museum learning experience with Common Core State Standards in ELA for Reading and Writing Informational Texts.
Classes from the following two schools submitted the winning essays. We received essays from every student in each class. Below is a sampling from the wonderful work of those students.
Samples of student work from Jessica Suarez's and Michelle Zieky's second grade class at Yorkville Community School.
Samples of student work from Lissette Torres' sixth grade class at P.S. 20 P.O.George J. Werdan III.
