On June 7, 2014, the Museum celebrated more than 50,000 New York City middle school students from 177 public schools across all 5 boroughs who took part in the Urban Advantage Science Initiative this school year. Since it began 10 years ago, this pioneering program has linked New York City's students, teachers, and families to 8 major science-based cultural institutions to conduct scientific investigations and inspire science learning.
As students and teachers shared their presentations at the American Museum of Natural History, the halls teemed with stories about how the program has helped New York City public middle-school students delve more deeply into science. In this video, teachers and students celebrate the study of science and how Urban Advantage has helped enrich their experience in the classroom and beyond.
With annual funding from the Council of the City of New York and the New York City Department of Education, Urban Advantage is a partnership between the New York City Department of Education and the American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, New York Hall of Science, Queens Botanical Garden, Staten Island Zoo, The New York Botanical Garden, Bronx Zoo, and New York Aquarium.
