Charitable Gift Annuities

Make a Gift and Receive Income for Life—Payouts Begin Immediately

A charitable gift annuity is an extraordinary way to make a gift to the Museum, create income for life and slice your tax bill—all in one arrangement. We created our charitable gift annuity program as a service to our many supporters who have expressed a desire to make a gift to us and still retain income from their gift property during their lives.

If you are at least 65 years of age and you transfer at least $20,000 in cash or stock to the Museum to fund a charitable gift annuity, you (and/or someone else, if you wish) will receive fixed payments for life. The amount we pay may be significantly higher than what your investments are currently earning. You also get an immediate income tax charitable deduction and a portion of the income you receive is tax-free, which effectively increases your yield.

The accompanying chart shows the payout rates when payments are made to one person. Payments may also be made to two people, in which case the annuity payout is generally lower.

65 4.7%
70 5.1%
75 5.8%

Make a Gift and Receive Income for Life—Payouts are Deferred

Museum supporters who have not yet reached retirement age can still fund a charitable gift annuity with the Museum and choose to begin receiving payments at a later date. Or, supporters who have already reached retirement may nonetheless want to wait a few years before their gift annuity starts making payments to them. In exchange for this deferral period, these supporters receive a higher payout from their gift annuity and are entitled to a larger income tax charitable deduction as compared to a regular charitable gift annuity.

The accompanying chart shows the payout rates when deferred payments are made to one person. Payments may also be made to two people, in which case the annuity payout is generally lower.

One-Life Deferred Payment Charitable Gift Annuity Rates

60 65 5.5%
65 70 5.9%
70 80 9.3%
75 80 7.9%
