The purpose of Tool 3 is to introduce and deepen teachers’ understanding of the BSCS 5E Instructional Model, a research-based approach to designing instructional sequences within a unit. Teachers analyze two classroom scenarios: one involves instruction that is aligned with the 5Es and the other is not. Teachers gain a deeper understanding of the 5E model and how it incorporates three-dimensional learning. Using the 5Es and their unit blueprint from Tool 1, teachers develop a storyline and conceptual flow that align with the 5Es and provide an integrated approach to instruction, laying the groundwork for Tool 4.
