Work with AMNH educators to examine the evidence for evolution, the process of biological evolution, how we understand the planet's biodiversity through the lens of evolution, and how teaching about evolution can be used to help students understand the nature of science.
This three-day course is designed to help middle and high school educators focus on what adults and students should know about the topic of biological evolution. Participants in this course will work with AMNH educators using museum exhibitions and resources to examine the cutting edge of evolutionary theory. A main focus will be the construction and interpretation of evolutionary tree diagrams using both morphological and genetic data. Examination of research on student misconceptions about evolution will strengthen understandings and abilities to teach about evolutionary processes.
