Common Core Literacy and Museum Learning Experiences: Pterosaurs

In this one day workshop, teachers will explore ways to use the Educator’s Guide for our special exhibit Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs. Participants will visit the exhibit to make curriculum connections and use AMNH resources to strengthen their abilities to teach in the Museum. Conversations with colleagues will help teachers work on differentiating lessons for their students. Teachers will receive copies of a new Educator’s Guide as well as digital and print resources. This workshop addresses Common Core state standards in English Language Arts for non-fiction reading.

The Museum is seeking NYC middle school science teachers to participate in an intensive 5.5 day professional learning experience about the NGSS and the Draft NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards.

This professional day is designed for teachers who want to strengthen their ability to use Museum resources to teach science and social studies. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a range of breakout sessions that will utilize the Museum’s digital, print, and exhibition resources to connect with the curriculum in ways that are engaging for students.
February 21, 2017 - February 22, 2017
This two-day workshop will introduce teachers to our upcoming temporary exhibition, ¡Cuba!. Participants will work with Museum staff and scientists to learn about biodiversity and conservation and how they can use NGSS-alligned resources and teaching strategies to prepare students for a Museum learning experience. Grade 6-12 Teachers.
