Connecting Content and Common Core Literacy Standards Using Museum Resources

This one day workshop explores how museum resources and school group visits can support both the Common Core literacy standards in reading and writing and science concepts from the New York State Curriculum in Science. Participants will explore a model for linking literacy and science content through visiting Museum Halls, engaging in strategies for reading and writing tasks and discussing how they would use the presented models and resources in their own work.

Join us on Election Day for a professional development day geared for Grade K-12 teachers who want to enrich their understanding of how to use Museum resources to integrate the teaching of science practices in support of Common Core literacy strategies and Next Generation Science Standards Learning goals.

This two-day workshop will introduce teachers to our newest exhibition, The Secret World Inside You. Participants will work with Museum educators and scientists to strengthen their understanding of how microbes interact and affect our bodies. Activities will provide a variety of NGSS-alligned resources and teaching strategies to prepare students for a Museum learning experience. Grades 6-12.

This professional day is geared for K-12 teachers who want to strengthen their ability to use Museum resources to teach science. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a range of breakout sessions that will utilize the Museum’s digital, print, and exhibition resources to connect with the science curriculum in ways that are engaging for students.
