Common Core Literacy and Museum Learning Experiences: The Power of Poison
December 8, 2013
During this one day workshop, teachers will engage in pre-, during, and post-visit activities to learn how to prepare students for a museum learning experience related our newest temporary exhibit about poisons. Participants will visit the exhibit to make curriculum connections and use AMNH resources to strengthen their abilities to teach in the Museum. Conversations with colleagues will help teachers work on differentiating lessons for their students. Teachers will receive copies of a new Educator’s Guide as well as digital and print resources. This workshop addresses Common Core state standards in English Language Arts for non-fiction reading.
This workshop is for K-5th grade teachers. Registration for this session is closed.

This two day workshop will introduce K-12 teachers to our newest exhibition, Nature’s Fury: The Science of Natural Disasters. Participants will work with Museum educators and scientists to strengthen their understanding of the earth processes that cause natural disasters, explore the tools that scientists use to study and predict these events and use case studies that help illustrate the topic
NYC Teachers Chancellor’s Day Professional Development 2015: Using Museum Resources to Support K-12 Science Education

This professional day is geared for K-12 teachers who want to strengthen their ability to use Museum resources to teach science. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a range of breakout sessions that will utilize the Museum’s digital, print, and exhibition resources to connect with the science curriculum in ways that are engaging for students.
