Brain Awareness Week Workshop: When Brains are on the Same Wavelength

March 16, 2013 - March 17, 2013

Brain

What does it mean to be 'on the same wavelength' with another person? Chatting on Facebook, holding hands, playing a game… We do these things to feel connected with others. But what can our brain activity tell us about how we connect with someone else? Participants in this workshop will take part in a real brain experiment and help scientists figure out the answer to this question. You will look at your own brainwaves and test what makes your brain connect with the brain of your friend, family member, or a complete stranger. You will also have a chance to see and record the electrical activity of your muscles as you move—or just think about moving.

The Museum greatly acknowledges The Mortimer D. Sackler Foundation, Inc. for its support to establish The Sackler Brain Bench, part of the Museum's Sackler Educational Laboratory, in the Spitzer Hall of Human Origins, offering ongoing programs and resources for adults, teachers, and students to illuminate the extraordinary working of the human brain.
