After School Program
Mapping Disaster - Exploratory Course (Formerly Visualizing Climate Change)
January 14, 2016 - March 1, 2016
Multi-year droughts, recording breaking blizzards, and superstorm hurricanes are becoming more common as our planet changes. In this course you will use the tools of the past, present, and future to explore the science of climate change and its effect on coastal cities like New York. You will speak with scientists to understand how they create climate models and use those models to make predictions about the future. While you learn from experts, you’ll design and create your own data visualization using a GIS mapping program. With hands on experience in digital tools of scientific modeling, you will see how our understanding of climate changes has changed over time, and what cities like New York can expect in the future.
