MAT applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (30 credits) in Earth Science or a related discipline (e.g., Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, or Space Science) OR a Bachelor’s with a minimum of 24 credits in Earth Science plus 6 additional credits in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Biology1
- Minimum GPA of 3.00
- A signed agreement to seek employment as a teacher in a high-needs New York State public school for at least four years upon graduation
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident2
- Special consideration will be given to individuals with skills/experiences such as the ability to communicate in a second language, in-depth knowledge of social issues, and having lived abroad
Applicants with a previous graduate degree in education and/or teacher certification will not be considered for the program.
We recommend that any applicants who did not major in geology, Earth science, or meteorology send an unofficial copy of their transcript(s) to the MAT Administrative office to confirm eligibility before beginning an official application.
