Profiles will be featured here to give insight into and information on the lives of the American Museum of Natural History's world-renowned scientists. These stories will cover the scientists' interests in their fields and their most current research projects for you to discover the people behind the science.
Dr. Ross MacPhee is a Curator in the Division of Vertebrate Zoology. His research focuses on trying to prove his current hypothesis on why the woolly mammoth of approximately 11,000 years ago went extinct so dramatically. Dr. Melanie Stiassny is the Axelrod Research Curator and Curator-in-Charge of the Department of Ichthyology. Her research focuses on the cichlid population and the systematics and evolutionary biology of fishes.

These two scientists are both currently working with the National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology to develop online science courses. See National Center News for more information on these courses.
