Spiders have a long history on Earth. The spider lineage stretches back more than 300 million years. This wolf spider (Family Lycosidae) was trapped in the sap of a tree 20 million years ago in what is now the Dominican Republic. The resin eventually became a chunk of amber, splendidly preserving the delicate detail of the spider.
