FAQ

Q. How many people do I need to qualify for group rates?
A. The minimum number of people to qualify as a group is 20.
Q.

Do we need to make reservations in advance?

A. Group reservations must be made in advance, with payment received a minimum of two weeks prior to your visit.
Q. Where do we go when we get there?
A. Groups enter the Museum at the Rose Center Entrance on 81st between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. A group leader should pick up the tickets at the upper-level will-call desk while the group waits outside, downstairs, or on the bus.
Q.

Is the Rose Center for Earth and Space in the same location as the American Museum of Natural History?

A. Yes. They are part of the same facility. You may enter the Rose Center directly at 81st Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue or you may enter it from inside the Museum.
Q. What if someone in our group has a problem walking?
A. Wheelchairs are available at no charge. Ask a security officer at the entrance for assistance. Please bring a photo ID to exchange for your wheelchair.

Is the Museum handicapped accessible?

A. Yes. All public areas in the Museum are accessible to wheelchairs; all video displays are captioned for the hearing impaired; hearing devices are available in auditoriums upon request. Please indicate in advance if there are guests with wheelchairs in your group - this will expedite your visit.
Q. Is there any place to purchase food at the Museum?
A. Yes. There are several places to purchase a delicious lunch or snacks. Our main Museum Food Court is self-service with no reservations required. Visit our dining page for more information.

Is there a place to eat if my group brings their own lunch?

A. Though there are plenty of areas outdoors for groups to enjoy a packed lunch, no outside food may be brought into the Museum.
Q. Is there assigned seating at the Space Show?
A. Seating at the Space Show is on a first-come, first-served basis. The show takes place above and around the visitors - all seats have an equally magnificent view.
Q.

If more people than expected show up, can they purchase Space Show tickets on the day of arrival?

A. Seating for the Space Show is available through advanced purchase. There is no guarantee that there will be availability for additional guests who have not made reservations. Every effort will be made to accommodate additional visitors at the first available show time.
Q. How long is the Space Show?
A. The entire experience is 30 minutes.
Q.

How long is an IMAX film?

A. IMAX films average 40 minutes.
Q. How much time should we spend at the Museum?
A. We recommend a minimum of 2.5 hours to experience the Museum. Give yourself an extra hour if you are seeing one of our shows or special exhibitions. If you have purchased the Super Saver package, plan on spending at least 4 hours with enough time for lunch.
Q.

Is a guided tour included in a group visit?

A. No. Any private guided tours must be arranged in advance as part of the SuperSaver admission package.
Q. How can we arrange a private guided tour?
A. A private museum Highlights Tour or a Spotlight Tour of a special exhibition may be arranged given at least two weeks advance request, and subject to the availability of a tour guide. Please see the Tours page.

How long is a guided tour?

A. Both the Museum Highlights Tour and exhibition Spotlight Tour are approximately 1 hour long.
