OLogy is a totally free Web site for kids. It offers a unique Museum experience for kids through stories, games, and activities based on their interests in specific OLogies. OLogy is committed to protecting your privacy while you visit our Web site and participate in the activities we have created for you. Please read all of this message. It describes the information that we collect from you and what we do with it. It's a good idea to ask your parents or guardians to read it too, so they know what's happening on OLogy. And if there are any parts of this message you don't understand, you can ask them to explain it to you. On OLogy, no one knows you are a...

The first thing to know is that we do not collect any personally identifying information about you; in other words, information that says who you are or where you live. On OLogy, you are completely anonymous. OLogy does not ask for your name, address, phone number, E-mail address, or anything else that someone could use to contact you in person or online.

If anyone says that they want to collect any of that information for OLogy, it's not really OLogy, and you shouldn't give them any information about you. In fact, you should always ask your parent or guardian before giving any information about yourself to anyone online.

You can become a registered member on OLogy and have your own private home page where you can collect OLogy cards and make things with them. When you register to become a member, OLogy asks you for your birth date, what state you live in, what your zip code is, and whether you are a boy or a girl. We also ask your opinion about different things, like what's your favorite OLogy. You don't have to enter any of that information to become a member, but it does help us. We combine everyone's information together to give us a big picture of who our audience is.

We will never share your information with anyone else. You can change it anytime you want, even erase it all, by going to the page called "My Stats" which you can get to from your home page. We may use the info that we collect on the "My Stats" page to put an announcement that might be of interest to you on your personal home page. Your screen name and password

When you register on OLogy, you will pick a screen name and a password, and also a "hint" word. Never share your screen name or password or hint word with anyone else, except your parent or guardian. Anyone who knows your screen name and password or hint word can sign into OLogy and go to your home page and do anything they want there. If you think someone else knows your password or hint word, you can change it by going to the page called "My Stats," which you can get to from your home page.

Things you write on OLogy
OLogy has some questionnaires that ask your opinions on things and where you can type in a reply and send it to OLogy. Also, if you are a registered member, you can make projects where you can write notes and comments. Never write any information that can be used to identify you, like your name or address. If we receive any messages that contain personally identifying information about you or any other kid, we will delete it from our files. When you make a really great project on our site, you can submit it to OLogy and we might post it where anyone who visits the site can see it. We won't publish any member's projects unless they submit it to us. And we won't publish any project that has any personally identifying information in it. If we publish a project that you have submitted to us, we'll display your screen name. Your screen name is anonymous, so no one can know who you are by looking at your screen name. We will never voluntarily or knowingly examine, modify, or disclose the contents of your private projects except as required to do so by law, or in the good faith belief that it is necessary to comply with the law or to protect your identity or the security of the OLogy site.

Other data we collect on OLogy
Every time you look at a page on OLogy, our Web server logs your "IP address" along with what page file was requested, the time it was requested, and what type of browser you used to look at the page. An "IP address" is the address of your computer's connection to the Internet. This information is saved in a file that only people on our staff can see. We combine all the information in that file to learn about how people visit our site, and things like which pages are most popular. We do not combine that information with any of your membership information, or any other information about you. OLogy uses "cookies" when you visit our site, but we do not use them to obtain or track any personally identifying information about you. Cookies are pieces of information that a Web site puts on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies allow us to keep track of when and how you visit our site. These are only used to direct you away from "one-time only" sections of the site you have seen before (voting on polls) and towards new sections.

Links to other Web sites
OLogy sometimes includes links to other Web sites. These sites are not part of our service and are not under our control. These sites may have different policies relating to your privacy and information they collect about you. We strongly encourage all kids to get a parent's permission before giving out any information about themselves to any other person or Web site.

When this Privacy Policy changes
The Web is a quickly changing environment. We may need to change our Privacy Policy at some point in the future. You should check back here to learn of any changes we make to the policy in the future. Questions regarding this policy should be directed to the OLogy site manager at ology@amnh.org
