 When
animals do something right before a natural disaster, it's interesting. During the earthquake in Washington, my
friend's hamster piled all the wood chips on one side of the cage with food, dug
a burrow, and wouldn't come out. Animals might act this way because of something
in their genes. |

Another cool thing about genetics is cloning. I
think it's a pretty good thing to clone endangered animals, as long as it's not
overdone. I really don't think that we should ever bring back extinct animals
because that may upset the balance of the ecosystem. If scientists were trying to
bring back the extinct woolly mammoth through cloning, they should test the plan
with only a few animals first. If it doesn't affect other species, then maybe
scientists could bring some of them back, but not too
many. |

Genetics is exciting because there are so many
great things it can do for us. Still, it's going into unknown territory. Being a geneticist is like being someone who is going to help design a house. When you first start thinking about the design, you're not sure how it's going to look in the end. |
