New! Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival High School Program
Margaret Mead Field TripThrough screenings of innovative documentary work, discussions with filmmakers, and interactive workshops, these programs at the Museum address issues of cultural and global studies, media literacy, and film and video production.
These programs are for teachers and their classes visiting the museum on field trips.

Teen Video Diary
Program 1: Tuesday, October 6, 1998
"Kelly Loves Tony" is a teen-produced video diary by a young Laotian woman. The first in her family to graduate from high school, Kelly's educational plans are challenged when she learns that she is pregnant. An insightful first person account about teen culture, family conflict, immigration and the pursuit of the "American Dream."

Global Action Project
Program 2: Tuesday, January 5, 1999
This session will feature members of the Global Action Project, an educational organization which develops youth leaders through video production and peer education and promotes the inclusion of diverse youth voices on critical local and global issues. Segments of their work will be presented and youth producers will conduct interactive workshops with their high school peers.

"Viewing Race"
Program 3: Tuesday, February 2, 1999
"Viewing Race" is a new multi-faceted video project of National Video Resources, which examines issues of race and racism nationally and globally. A title from this project will provide a forum for discussing race, media and culture.

Infectious Film Festival
Program 4: Tuesday, March 2, 1999
In conjunction with the Epidemic! exhibition at the Museum, this program will present a series of cross-cultural public service announcements to facilitate a discussion about cultural attitudes towards public health.

Biodiversity: The Nature Film
Program 5: Tuesday, April 6, 1999
From the comic to the classic, this session will include film clips from a wide array of documentary productions about natural history providing a basis for discussion of how film and video shape our perceptions of the natural world. Screening and discussion.
