Visiting the Invertebrate Zoology Collections

Access to collections is by appointment only.

Admission to and use of collections is granted to research scientists, graduate students and other visitors who are affiliated with a recognized academic or research institution.  

Requests to work with the collections should be made to the appropriate Curator-in-Charge at least 2 weeks prior to the anticipated visit and should specify:

  1. Proposed dates of visit
  2. Purpose of the visit
  3. Specimens to be examined

*Students should provide a letter of intent from their advisor on institution letterhead. 

Hours to visit the collections are weekdays, 9 am to 5 pm, excluding public holidays.
Special permission may be granted to visit outside of these hours under certain circumstances. 

Please note:

  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed in any of the collection areas.
  • If you are using chemicals for your work in the museum, please remember that typical laboratory protocols apply.
    • All chemicals must be labeled clearly and stored appropriately.
    • All hazardous waste must be labeled as such with the date the hazardous waste container was started.
    • Please inform your host that you will be using chemicals and that they will need proper disposal when your visit is complete.
