These volcanic bombs were wrapped in newspaper and crated for cross-country shipment via flatbed truck. Upon arrival, they must be carefully unpacked and inspected for damage.

In this case, rainstorms soaked the crate and packing material en-route East, resulting in unusual growths of mold on the specimens.
