The next step is to decide how to prepare the boulder for exhibition:

A choice is made to cut the sample to enhance specific features.

The sample is cut with a wire saw, acquired by the quarry especially for this project.

The cut surface is polished to reveal and enhance the appearance of the sample's structure.

In some cases, samples do not require any preparation at all prior to mounting. This beautiful welded tuff, for example, will be exhibited as is behind glass to protect its delicate structure.
