Looking at granite clasts, rock fragments resulting from the breakdown of larger rocks, that were created during early glacial movement when the granite bedrock below was ripped up and broken to pieces. This is the Gowganda Formation, exposed here on Route 108 in Elliot Lake, Ontario. AMNH scientists excavated a large section for HoPE.
