ROCK HAMMER

The rock hammer is the universal symbol of a geologist in the field. It's used to break off small chips to expose a fresh surface of the rock for examination. The pointy end is used to remove debris from the outcrop surface in order to see the best place to obtain a sample. The first thing a geologist usually does with a new rock hammer is dull the pointy end so that no one will get hurt with it.
