FOR THE CLASSROOM
Resources for Learning
Search this free online catalog of scientific and standards-based teaching materials for K-12 educators and learners. The database can be browsed by topic or searched by keyword.
Antactica: The Farthest Place Close to Home
Take your students to the world’s most extreme environment with this curriculum. As they investigate this polar continent and its value to scientists worldwide, they will also learn about world climate, day and night cycles, ocean circulation, animal adaptation, and scientists working “in the field.”
Deep Sea Vents
The deep oceans are Earth's last undiscovered frontier. And the deep sea vent communities are amazing enough to convince your students that this is one science topic well worth studying! The first unit, "Explore the Deep Oceans," investigates deep sea vents in the context of deep sea exploration. The second unit, "Journey to the Deep Sea Vents," explores the deep sea vent communities ... "in-depth"!
The Ocean System
Why is the ocean so big? Why is it salty? How deep is it? How does the ocean work? Examine the relationships between the oceans and climate, geological events, and weather with these resources developed for the Museum's online courses for educators.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
Seminars on Science
The Museum developed Seminars on Science, its online teacher professional development program, in order to connect teachers across the United States and around the world to cutting-edge research and to provide them with powerful classroom resources. The program consists of eight six-week online graduate courses in the life, Earth, and physical sciences. Visit this website to find out more about the program and preview the Earth: Inside and Out and The Ocean System courses.
