The
Zeiss Mark IX is capable of projecting 9,100 stars high-intensity
white-light that randomly twinkles just like the night sky
onto the dome, along with the Sun, and planets, and is capable
of taking visitors to the surface of any object in our solar
system. The Zeiss is completely computer controlled. Fiber optics
generate a starry sky of unparalleled clarity, providing views
of the night sky so realistic that even deep-sky objects are
projected. Though largely invisible to the naked eye, they can
be seen with binoculars. The planet data displayed by the projector
is from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA),
and the drawings of the constellations are by Scott Ewalt, a
New York-based artist.
