Protection of Endangered Species and Habitats in the Hudson River - New York Bight
Watershed
The New York Bight region is a vast system of ocean waters, fringing coastlands, tidal and freshwater wetlands, and upland watershed. It includes the open water of the Atlantic Ocean off Long Island and southeastern New Jersey out to the edge of the continental shelf, approximately100 miles seaward. The Bight watershed stretches from the peaks of the Adirondacks, Catskills, and New York-New Jersey Highlands, to the Hudson River valley and coastal flatlands of southern Long Island and New Jersey. The watershed totals 20 million acres (31,276 square miles), of which 6.5 million acres (10,206 square miles) are upland watershed and 13.5 million acres (21,070 square miles) are marine and estuarine waters. |
