The Raptor Trust, Millington, New Jersey
The Raptor Trust has an extensive public education program that is staffed with two full-time teachers and many volunteers. In the last year, more than 200 programs were offered at schools and on site. About 100 hawks, eagles, and owls, representing more than 20 species, are kept for captive breeding, foster parenting of orphaned birds, and environmental education. Because of their injuries, these birds cannot survive in the wild. The Trust gets tens of thousands of visitors each year and makes available free educational materials, such as Hawk Facts and Raptor Nest Box Plans. It also offers internships for high school and college students who are interested in learning about and rehabilitating raptors.
