Imagine finding one of these!

Seeing a flesh-and-blood mammoth carcass emerge from the frozen silt, Arctic peoples believed them to be some kind of giant subterranean mole which had lived until exposed to sunlight. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, “Cases have been reported in which sled dogs were actually fed the meat from frozen mammoth carcasses that had begun to thaw out of the ice that had held them for almost 30,000 years.” Preserved remains, such as flesh, hair, internal organs, stomach contents, and even dung, are enormously valuable to scientists.
