Tusks on the Tundra: An Expedition to Siberia

Who: Ross MacPhee, chairman of the Museum's Department of Mammalogy, Clare Flemming, laboratory and special collections supervisor of the Museum's Department of Mammalogy, Jeff Saunders of the Illinois State Museum, Alexei Tikhonov of the Zoological Institute at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Sergey Vartanyan or the Wrangel Island State Reserve.
What: An eighteen-day sojourn north of the Arctic Circle, hunting for mammoth bones and teeth in the soggy tundra.
When: August, 1998.
