How do we prepare for the next pandemic, and what role can artificial intelligence (AI) play in those important efforts?

Join researcher Barbara Han from the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, whose research is at the intersection of ecology, computing, and global health, for a SciCafe about the importance of understanding the ecology of zoonotic diseases like COVID-19 in order to predict future risks.

Focusing specifically on carnivores, which are of particular interest due to their susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2, Han studies the links between zoonoses, climate change, and carnivore ecology, helping us understand future risks of disease transmission. Using AI models, Han can help assess the susceptibility of these species to transmit diseases like COVID-19 and the risk these pose to human health.
