Haida Drum

Haida Gwaii, the islands of the People also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, is the home of the Haida Nation. Since the late 1800s, Haida culture has overcome great challenges. Until quite recently, there were fewer than thirty elders who were “Holders of Songs.” In the last 40 years, however, there has been a reawakening of Haida musical and dance traditions. Come experience the wellspring of Haida music and dance traditions by the Haida Dancers of Old Masset and Skidegate.

Through traditional song (in the indigenous language) and dance, visitors will have the opportunity to experience cultural aspects of the Haida Gwaii First Nation rarely available to the public. Also, visitors will be able to try their hand (and foot, if you will) in the traditional expressions via facilitated informal teaching from master Haida performers.
