Exhibition Text

In their ceremonial dances, the Nuu-chah-nulth wore and carried numerous trappings distinctive of the Northwest Coast. Especially noteworthy are the headbands, neck rings, leg rings, anklets, and bracelets made of shredded cedarbark. These cedarbark rings are virtually identical to those of the Kwakwaka’wakw displayed in the adjoining alcove. Some of the figures in the Haida war canoe in the entrance foyer illustrate how cedarbark rings were worn.
